Appearance: When many people think of a palomino, they envision a creature the color of polished gold, a beast kissed by the sun. When they see Kel, they see the dirty version of that. Her coat is the color of burnt wheat, broken by a mask and three socks of varying height. Her eyes are the blue-gray that usually accompanies the white face.
Her mane and tail are thick, hinting at a heritage that knows of cold winters. The hairs are pale but not quite white, darkening slightly at the base.
Personality: Kel is a rather withdrawn creature, she doesn't approach strangers and it isn’t a common practice for her to approach those that she knows save for what she considers ‘a dire situation’. She allows others to lead discussions, replying when a response is called for.
While she considers herself a closed book (and she very much is, keeping much of her thoughts to herself, creating a huge issue when it comes to communicating with others), she often unconsciously betrays her emotions through voice, body and various tics one learns if they’ve spent some time around the introverted beastie.
Kel is an actor of sorts, working hard to hide when she’s hurting or has feelings for another. She prefers to act as if everything is okay, set up a friendly persona. A witty tongue and friendly touches hide an insecure and unsure heart.
Although starved for company, she often keeps others at arm’s-length, unconsciously pushing them away if she feels that they are growing too close. She has an unspoken near-phobia of trust and deeper feelings. Then again, she is also fearful of rejection real or imagined (though it has shown that most of the time, the rejection that she perceives is indeed imagined).
It takes a lot of prodding on another’s behalf (or high stress) to get Kel to (reluctantly or explosively) reveal what’s truly on her mind or express the emotions she’s feeling.
History: Kel isn’t one with a dramatic history filled with glory and killed lovers. She wasn’t abandoned at birth or horribly mistreated. No, she was born to a nobody mare in a small herd. Her dam paid her minimum attention. Perhaps that was the start of her insecurity. Wasn’t she good enough for her mother?
She’d sometimes join the other foals in play, but her heart wasn’t in it. Instead, she took to wandering off on her own. This lasted for years, until she chose one day to just not return. Would they miss her? Probably not. Nothing in the past hinted that the herd would notice the absence of the introvert.
She joined a few herds, but always ended up fading out of them after a few months. Nothing extraordinary had happened to her. Maybe she was just lucky. How long can this luck last in this new region?
